school feast and nap hair

As I suspected when I started blogging it is hard to keep up with this! So after much encouraging from Hugh I am trying it again. I decided maybe I would do better if I took pictures throughout the day….then I would have something to blog about. Part of my problem has been that by the end of the day I’m to tired to remember anything that happened, or don’t want to take the time to really explain. So I am hoping that if I include lots of pictures the pictures will speak for me. Isn’t a picture worth a thousand words?

Jensen’s school had a Thanksgiving Feast today that families were invited to. Quinan was very excited to be going to Jensen’s school and asked me about a million times if it was time yet. Once we were there he had lots of fun and ate tons of food! Jensen had fun showing off her little brother to her friends.

When we got home Quinan actually took a nap, maybe because he got up at 6:45 AM. He slept for about an hour and then I had to get him up to go pick up Kennerley from school. He must have had a great nap. Not sure if you can tell from the photo because his hair is so light but a section of it was standing straight up! Signs of a great nap.

I made a couple of yummy things today. Below are the recipes

SWEET AND SPICY PUMPKIN SEEDS
1 cup pumpkin seeds
5 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
Pinch of cayenne pepper
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

In a medium bowl combine 3 tablespoon sugar, salt, cumin, cinnamon, ginger and cayenne. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over high heat. Ad pumpkin seeds and remaining 2 tablespoons sugar. Cook until sugar melts and pumplin seeds begin to caramelize, about 45 to 60 seconds. Transfer to bowl with spices and stir well to coat. let cook.

SPAGHETTI A PIZZAIOLA
1 lb fettuccini – cooked
1 lb of Fresh mozzarella, diced into about 1 inch squares
1 24 oz can diced tomatoes
1 garlic clove
1 1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 1/2 Tablespoon oregano

Mix all the ingredients except the fettuccini together, then toss with the noodles. Place in a baking dish and bake until the cheese is melted about 20 minutes at 350 degrees

ITALIAN SALAD
Dressing:
1/2 cup white vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup water
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 garlic clove
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/4 teaspon dried parlsey flakes
2 1/2 tablespoon parmesan cheese
pinch diced oregano
2 tablespoon dry pectin
pinch of crushed red pepper flakes
2 tablespoon egg substitute

Combine all the ingredients with a mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Chill at least 1 hour. Serve over mixed greens dressed with peperoncini peppers, black olives, cherry tomatoes, croutons, fresh grated Parmesan cheese.

Editors Needed!

At my school, my teacher is having us enter a writing contest, and thought that Portal would be my best editor. I will be having my friends and my teacher peer edit it, but they probably will just tell me how well written it was (I’m just kidding). But I would like somone who wouldn’t mind a giving a little “buildable” criticism. I really want to do my best, so I want an outsiders opinion on the character development, description, fluency, all that jazz. If you are interested palms up, just post a comment on why, and I will consider sending you an ultra secret copy of Portal.

This is only OPTIONAL you know.

I Remember!

While writing the last entry I’m slowly starting to remember a few Christmas Eves. A man with a white beard and a red suit that looked exactly how Santa is said to look like, would come through the door with a big red bag. Then, he would give us a small treat like a candy cane stick or a Pez dispenser and leave. I recall Mom saying that the door was locked and he had just come in.

Extra! Extra! Is Santa Claus real!

Before I begin, I’d like you to know that Dad made me write if I belive in Santa, so that’s why I’m writing this entry. Dad, for at least five years has always said he was Santa, and I had never belived him, thinking that he was joking. Well, things have changed. I’m not quite sure if Santa is real, and things reported that make it seem like Hugh R. Roper is the real Santa. So while I observe this case for some time,I’m just going to say that Hugh is the real Santa.

Mostaccio Morpheus

Nate and Sarah probably know that “mostaccio” is italian for mustache. Others may know that “morpheus” is the roman god of dreams (or sleep). Mostaccio meet morpheus.

Quinan somehow scratched his upper lip slightly and decided to procure a band-aid mostaccio just before dinner. Pretty stylin’. It reminded me of Michele’s dad Mike (about 25 years ago)… without the band-aid.

At dinner time Quinan was visited by morpheus. See the video link below. The third sleep-eating video is from about a year ago.

The thing I love about my little boy is how he smiles when he is sleepy. Sweet dreams my son.

New Mexico 2005

You may be wondering why I’m writing about a trip two years ago to New Mexico. Well, it’s because I was inspired. Inspiration comes (to me) in may forms, cookies, music, clothing and sometimes neices.

The new rathblog features an inaugural post, Congratulations. I’m a mom. Amy’s descriptive prose flooded my mind with our own similar experience.

See the picture of Michele below? The one where she appears to be counting to five? Click that photo and take a closer look. Yes, we were were at McDonalds in Kingman, AZ. No, Michele didn’t have a chocolate shake and spill on her shirt. Quinan decided to make his own soft serve and somehow it got everywhere in the car. Ah, the joys of parenthood. If I remember correctly Michele ended up changing her clothes in the back of the car, although I’m not sure why, it was only another 7-8 hours to her parent’s house in White Rock.

Yes, July 2005 was a great family trip. We took our mugs at Hoover Dam, welcomed Sarah home from her 18 month bilingual vacation in Chicago, played kickball, made coffee can ice cream, shared watermelon and had a wonderful time.

Here’s to Yellowstone in 2008 (are we still on)?

Abstraction

I few days ago I taught Quinan how to take photos with our digital camera. I’m pretty surprised how we composed many of the pictures are.
