What are you reading?
I am reading The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara.
My sister Kim had read it and when I saw the title I thought “What in the world is she reading!” Other then the title it is a good book. It is about the Civil War – the battle at Gettysburg. It is a historical fiction. Growing up the Civil War fascinated me. I always wanted to live on a huge plantation and wear great, big, huge dresses. How fun would that be!
So what are you reading?

Hand me downs
When I turned eight I was given a journal. I wrote in that journal pretty faithfully until I got married. Then it slowed down, then when I had Kennerley it pretty much stopped. I have always been sad that so much of the time of my growth as a person I have not recorded much. I did record special occasions but so much of what I have learned has been in everyday moments with my family. The reasons for not writing in a journal are pretty lame. One: time. Two: (this is the really lame one) I couldn’t find a journal that I liked. I tried hardback – but they were to big. I tried notebooks – but they just didn’t feel like they would last through time. I tried small books but my writing is to big and they filled up to fast and I didn’t like having a bunch of little books sitting around. Well, one day I happened upon LDS Journal which is a place to put your journal online.when I came across LDS Journal I thought I would give it a try. For one reason, sadly with so much work done on computers now my handwriting has turned from bad to really bad. So that was another lame excuse I had for not journaling – no one would be able to read it. I have been using LDS Journal for a few months now and i really like it. I think it is a perfect fit for me. I have gone back to writing what I learn, everyday happenings, and alot of the experiences I am having right now and what i am learning from it all. So, as a result of my great find I have not been at all on the blog scene. Because I am already recording the things going on in my life I haven’t really wanted to do it all over again for the blog. But I love to read others blog and learn about them and see what they are up to. So I recently decided to use the blog more as a way to let family and friends know a little more about me – and most especially let those in my family coming after me know a little about who I was. So every couple of days i will put up a random journal jar type of question and answer it. I would love for you guys reading this in the here and now to answer the question also. Just leave a comment!
So for the first one!
Tell about handed-down talents, foods, clothespin dolls, willow whistles, pottery, quilting, whittling, meat drying etc.
As the oldest sibling and the oldest cousin in my family I don’t think growing up I received very many items that were handed-down. When I got married I got handed down beds, couches, desks, tables, etc. I can think of one item that was handed down to me that is very special. It is an old, old little tiny sewing machine. And some day when I have time to take a picture of it and put it up. But my great-grandma on my dad’s side, Nana Tiedeck gave it to me. I love it because it is so old and represents a part of history and because it is something from someone else.
So tell me about handed-down talents, foods, clothespin dolls, willow whistles, pottery, quilting, whittling, meat drying etc.

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
I am in Drama Club, the Fantasy Firebirds, and we are doing a play. (Name of play is the title of this article!) Sadly, I’m a gypsy, which is an extra and I think the only extra. But, on the bright side, one of my Drama buddies is on the stage at the same time as me (I drag her off stage) and friends not in Drama can be an extra with me!!!!

Roper5 Mission
Tonight for Family Home Evening we discussed creating a family mission.
First, we brainstormed our family roles.
Second, we combined these roles into five areas:
- Children
- Servants
- Explorers
- Friends
- Family
Third, we drafted a list of long-term goals for these roles:
- Return to our Heavenly Father
- Invite other to Christ
- Have fun making the world better
- Gladly welcome others into our lives
- Get to know our ancestors, build relationships now and preserve records of who we are
My suggestion final family mission:
As a family we will prepare for eternity through service, exploration, friendship and love.
Brainstorm list of roles:
Children (of God)Church membersSillyHungryCitizensFriendsFamily MembersMissionariesFuture AncestorsCreatorsNeighborsLearnersStudentsServants
Notes for final mission:
Return to Heavenly Father, invite others into our lives and to Christ, have fun, improve the world, remember ancestors, love family and preserve our lives. Live like and invite others to Christ, have fun making the world better, discover our family of the past, celebrate our present family and preserve for our future family. Look to Christ, discover past, celebrate present and protect for our future.
We finished tonight with Michele’s secret fluffy chocolate chip cookies (made with sour cream) and a game of Quinan’s Alphabet Bingo.

Get a Clue
For christmas we received Clue Express, a spin off of the classic board game. We had tons of fun.
Recently when Jen wanted to spend some of her own money we recently “encouraged” her to get the full Clue game. We have played it as a family a few times with wins by both Kenn and Michele. Tonight Jen started spinning some righteous strategy. Michele drew the last clock card and took a turn for the graveyard. Jen dominated with a win when I only had the weapon figured out. Kenn was right behind Jen and showed true sportsmanship.

Croup The Third
Last night—for the third year in a row—Quinan woke up with the croup. 2007 2008
We have a pretty good routine now to treat him. I just grab Quinan, a chair and a blanket and site outside in the cold holding him for 30 minutes to an hour. Then we start up the humidifier in his room. We stayed home from church to make sure he doesn’t spread it to other kids. And had lots of fun including playing with the african giraffes grandma and grandpa sent us.
If you child hasn’t had croup before and you aren’t familiar with it this is what it Quinan sounded like to years ago.

In 'n' Out (Literally)
Back around Thanksgiving we got a call from our friends, the “D’s” who moved to Bountiful about 4 years ago. They were on their way to sunny California and were stopping at our mutually-favorite fast food joint. So off to Trop and I15 we went. We had a great time, great food and lots of catching up. They asked about lots of people who may or may not read this blog (and said) Hi!
Quinan now affectionately calls In ‘N’ Out the “Restaurant with the ring around it” and the “lemonade place you can run around.”
We’re looking forward to the new In’N‘Out at Trop and Ft. Apache and hope that Utah stays In’N‘Out free for a few more years.
