I LOVE RUNNING!
Today I ran 5-1-8, for those (few) of you who are not running, that’s week 6 — session 1, run 5 minutes, walk 1 minute, 8 times.
Although the first 24 minutes wasn’t easy, it sure didn’t kill me. About halfway through I finally felt warmed up… started to look at the clouds… and drifted into the zone (which is a good thing)… calming endorphins… ah…
I listened to President Eyring and Elder Cook with my modified General Conference podcast. There just something about physical strains of running that opens the mind and heart to simple phrases and thoughts that I would otherwise forget, such as this quote from President Eyring’s talk:
“I wrote down a few lines every day for years. I never missed a day no matter how tired I was or how early I would have to start the next day. Before I would write, I would ponder this question: “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?” As I kept at it, something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done.”
That’s something I need to do. Maybe this medium is a way to accomplish it. I’ll have to ponder that. Doug is a great albeit delayed example of this.
Anyways, I’m completely amazed that I was able to run 40 minutes with only 8 little one-minute breaks (and live to tell about it). I’m glad the next session is only 2-1-10. I’m still a slow runner (yes, that’s called a jogger), but my pace is improving and Lance Armstrong even told me I had my longest workout yet.

Good Job on the running – I’m going to start Monday. Also, thanks for the reminder from the talk – it really hit me when I heard it in conference and is something I need to start doing!!

What! I must have read wrong. I thought Kim, my sister, said she was going to start running on Monday? Wow! I think that is great Kim.

Nice use of hyperlinks for “example of this”. Writing something regularly can be tedious but is invaluable later in life. Thanks for trying to motivate us old folks to be less indolent.
