Broccoli (not Berkeley)
A couple weeks ago Quinan helped us harvest broccoli from our square foot garden. We’ve been blessed to have about this much broccoli from our garden every week. We also have cauliflower, peas, cabbage, cilantro, carrots, parsley, lettuce and a little bit of spinach that have grown through the winter.

Cartoonist
I decided what I want to do when I grow up. It is unusually early to decide, but I think this job will be perfect for me. A cartoonist. I was a little bit younger when I made some comics for my dad. They were O.K. for a beginner who with no intention, had no idea what they were actually doing. I was bored around last year and read from my sisters book, “The Great Big Art Activity book”. I thought cartooning was pretty cool. In Computer class last semester, my class went to a career website, where I quickly viewed about a cartoonists job, but focused more on being a writer, a big idea of a job for me. Yesterday, a Saturday, my family went to the library and I checked a book called “Art For Kids: Cartooning” by a cartoonist named Art Roche. This book went deeper into cartooning, from good materials to making people, objects, and animals. From hints for getting jokes to publishing your cartoons! It even explained the different types of cartoons. A gag cartoons which is picture, usually in a square, and shows the joke, then below a caption of what the speaker says. Advertising cartoons are the ones on a cereal box. Comic books, and even plain doodling. I now want to get a kneaded eraser which is an eraser that feels like clay and you can clean it by pulling it apart over and over. This book also said not to spend too much money on materials, the honest truth. I read it in the amount of a day and so far have created a gag cartoon and currently working on a comic book. You are also toured by the one and only Bunny Guy!

Movie Talk
If I was talking in person, I would say to you, “You don’t have to listen to me, just pretend to.” So, try to figure out how you can do that yet read this, and comment about it, ‘cause I have no idea!
The Inkheart movie is going to be so wrong! Here is somethings listed I (actually my mom) found.
Meggie’s power is discovered by Capricorn, in the movie, after the appearance of Toto, the dog summoned by reading The Wizard of Oz, but in the novel she summons Peter Pan’s Tinkerbell.
Farid and Dustfinger set fire to Capricorn’s castle. In the book Farid and Mo did it.
Dustfinger is taken into Inkheart by Mo. In the book he isn’t but in Inkspell he is finally taken in but does not meet his wife, Roxane straight away..
Mo agrees to send Dustfinger back into Inkheart. The fire juggler is so reunited with his family, while some kind of hummingbird is sent into the real world.
It is revealed by Fenoglio that inside Inkheart Dustfinger would die while saving his ferret Gwin. Because the ferret is not sent back in the book along with Dustfinger, the juggler will most likely live.
Farid remains with Meggie’s Family.
Every other creature summoned from the book is sent back, due to an addendum written by Meggie herself.
Gwin, Dustfingers’ pet, is a ferret in the movie and a marten in the novel.
Resa, Meggie’s mother, gets her voice back in the end of the movie when Capricorn dies. In the book she gets it back in Inkspell.
WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! They got like, some big stuff in there all wrong. I mean, a ferret? Where did that come from! A ferret is oddly skinny and stuff. A marten is more fat, and cute!!! And you would imagine they would be more vicious than a ferret (I don’t really know) and Gwin bites people all the time! What is going in their heads! They took, like, half of Inkspell into that movie!! (exaggeration) Mo can’t send Dustfinger back either, that is why he doesn’t!! I don’t recall a hummingbird! A hummingbird! Where did that piece come from to?! Gwin is awesome. Dustfinger loves Gwin, who was his only companion for 9 years of his life. WHY WOULD DUSTFINGER NOT TAKE GWIN BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Toto? We want Tinkerbell!! We want Tinkerbell!! WE WANT TINKERBELL!!!!!!!!!!!!! The glassman creature “summoned” from the book gets ran over by a car. Does that mean his glass bits go back? Like fictional creatures could survive 9 years!
I’m glad I got that all out. Now, I will save up money to go see that movie for when it comes out.
P.S. (A blog is like a journal, I can do P.S.) My mom found that from this website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inkheart_(film)

Happy New Year
Happy New Year to all our family and friends!
One of the things I want to do better at this year is blogging. So I thought I would try to write something everyday.
It is now January 4th and I am just getting to it. Why does life go by so fast!
Quinan, Kennerley and I have been sick for 3 weeks now. We have had a cough that never ends, the kind the hurts your stomach muscles, then we progressed to stuffed up heads, then some kind of stomach thing. There isn’t a break in between and we are getting very sick of being sick. Somehow Jensen and Hugh have avoided the whole thing.
Well, I am sure I had lots of great things to write about on New Years Day but now that it is the 4th I can’t remember any of them.
So, just want to say Happy New Year and I hope you all have a wonderful 2009

Book Review Time!
As I am now calling myself a book nerd, I will need to do these when ever I read something.
The Inkheart Series:
Including Inkheart, Inkspell, and Inkdeath
Written by: Cornelia Funke
Review:
Meggie has lived with her father, Mortimer(nicknamed Mo by Meggie), just the two of them. Mo worked as a bookbinder, binding books that were often broken or harmed in any way. The two loved books, but Mo would never read aloud stories. Meggie didn’t really care about it, and it didn’t matter. But one night a stranger visits Mo. This stranger, who calls himself Dustfinger, calls Mo Silvertongue, and Mo answers to it as if it were his real name. Soon, Meggie learns the real reason of why Mo wouldn’t read aloud,
and where her mother really has gone to. The two go off on a wild adventure and meet many new people… And new places.
Comments:
This was a very enjoyable series. Though it was greatly sad, it makes you wonder about if you could you go into a book. Beautifully written. Will be greatly loved by book lovers.

The Tales Of Beedle The Bard
A Wizarding Classic From The World Of Harry Potter
Written by: J.K. Rowling
Review:
The book of fairy tales from the 7th Harry Potter book, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows. Includes The Wizard And The Hopping Pot, The Fountain Of Fair Fortune, The Warlocks Hairy Heart, Babbitty Rabbitty And Her Cackling Stump, The Tale Of The Three Brothers, and even commentaries from Dumbledore. Addition of footnotes to his notes for clarification for Muggles. A brand new translation of the tales by Hermione Granger.
Comments:
This was a lovely book. Full of good fairy tales, though I could do without The Warlocks Hairy Heart which should be read by parents to see if children under the age of around 10 or 8 should be allowed to hear or read it, mainly around bedtime.

Shakespeare’s Secret
Written by: Elise Broach
Review:
Hero is starting sixth grade in a new school. She has the same name of a girl in a play written by Shakespeare. Hero is aware of the teasing she has to suffer because of it. She becomes friendless. Later, she finds out that a million-dollar diamond is hidden in her new house. In the process of discovering it, finds a new friend, Danny Cordova(who sadly is older than her and doesn’t help with her “problem”), and her new next-door neighbor. They uncover the secret if Shakespeare really did write the plays, or if it was Edward de Vere, the seventeenth Earl of Oxford.
Comments:
This is one of the best books ever written! A great mystery, but some of the evidence collected in this story is made up, making this book fiction. An excellent read!!!!!!
